Frequently Asked Questions
Everything people ask us by email, at markets, and occasionally at 2 a.m., a bit tipsy — we’re not judging. If your question isn’t here, write to hello@bubblebuttbear.ca — a real human (with a real soft spot for bears) usually answers.
The Builder
What’s the Builder?
Our 3D configurator. Pick a body, a head, an accessory; mix and match the colours and watch your figure come together live, from every angle. What you see is what we make. Try it — it’s dangerously fun.
Is a Builder figure made to order?
Yes. Nothing waits on a shelf: once you order, your figure is 3D printed, hand-painted, varnished, then packed — made just for you. Worth the small wait, considering.
Custom orders
How do custom orders work?
It starts in the Builder: choose the options you want and place your order. For anything the Builder doesn’t offer — a character, an outfit, a specific little detail — write to us after checkout, by email or Instagram, and we’ll take it from there. We send progress photos at every step and adjust until you’re happy. Customs are processed in the order they’re received, so yours will be ready as soon as possible — but quickly.
Where do I send my reference pictures?
Reply to your order confirmation email, or slide into our Instagram DMs — photos and videos travel well there. Drawings, screenshots, a napkin sketch: the more detail you send, the more accurate the resemblance. Where you take that is up to you.
How much does a custom cost?
The Builder shows your price as you build. For work beyond its options — extra accessories, wardrobe changes, body modifications — we don’t judge, we quote: write to us with your idea and we’ll confirm the price before anything starts.
When do you start working on my bear?
As soon as your order is placed. Customs are one of a kind, so the work starts after checkout — not before. It keeps things fair for everyone in line.
Can I ask for changes along the way?
Yes — that’s exactly why we send progress photos. Colours, expressions, eyebrows, that one missing detail your partner spotted: everything can be adjusted until the varnish goes on. After that, your bear is set in their ways. Literally.
What can be customized?
Almost everything: bear or pup, species (polar, grizzly, panda, red panda…), colours, curves — more or less chubby, we default to more — outfit, tail, and a little extra accessory we rarely resist adding. Faces come in two moods, happy or serious; no mouths — we’ve tested it, some things are better left unsaid. Superheroes, movie icons, your partner, your favourite character: if you can picture it, it can probably be painted on a chubby bear.
About the, hm, anatomy…
Fully optional — and fully mixable. The signature bulge can be removed, kept, or given a little more presence; curves, top-surgery scars, both, neither. Bears come in as many genders as their humans. Your bear, your call — just mention it early in the process.
The figures
What are the figures made of?
Each bear is 3D printed, then painted entirely by hand and sealed under a protective varnish — heavy-duty on the minis, because keychain life is rough. Made in Gatineau, Québec — no two are identical, and that’s rather the point.
How do I take care of my figure?
The varnish is solid protection, but it’s not an invincible shield. Keep your bear away from drops, scratches and long sunbathing sessions, and they’ll keep their looks for years. They’re low maintenance. Mostly.
What sizes and formats exist?
Classic figures stand about 10 cm tall — and customs can go bigger on request. Mini bears come as keychains, magnets, or on a clear acrylic base for your desk. Any keychain design can also be made as a figure only, base included — just ask.
Can you sculpt tiny accessories, like glasses?
On the 10 cm bears, usually yes. On minis, very small sculpted parts would snap at the first bump, so they’re painted on instead — same charm, better survival rate.
My bear broke. Are they done for?
Rarely fatal. A small drop of super glue fixes most accidents — it’s what we use in the studio. If the damage is beyond first aid, write to us and we’ll figure something out. We’ve been known to remake a bear entirely.
Shipping
Where do you ship?
Everywhere Canada Post goes: across Canada, the US, Europe, the UK, Australia… Little bears travel surprisingly well.
How long does delivery take?
Within Canada, usually about a week once your order ships. US orders can spend a couple of extra days clearing customs. International untracked surface mail can take one to two months — it’s the scenic route. When in doubt, pick a tracked option.
Do I get a tracking number?
If you choose a tracked shipping option at checkout, yes — we email it the moment your package reaches the post office. We warmly recommend tracking: slightly more expensive, considerably fewer sleepless nights.
What about US customs fees?
We’re transparent about them: the US shipping rates shown at checkout include the customs charge. The price you see is the price you pay — no surprise invoice at the door.
My package is late (or lost). What now?
Write to us — we’ll investigate. One way or another, your bear gets home.
I’m in Ottawa or Gatineau — can I skip shipping?
Absolutely. Choose “Pickup in person (Gatineau)” at checkout for free, and personal delivery around Ottawa–Gatineau can often be arranged. We like meeting the bears’ new families.
Can I require a signature on delivery?
Yes — signature on delivery and “no safe drop” options are available for a small Canada Post surcharge. Just ask before we ship your order.
Payment
How can I pay?
On the website by PayPal or credit card. Interac e-transfer also works — email us and we’ll set it up. For customs, payment comes first, then the creative process begins.
Social media & contact
Will my custom end up on your socials?
Only with your blessing — we always ask first. We can wait until after the gift is unwrapped, use your nickname instead of your real name, and tag you if you’d like. If your references came from an artist, we credit them too.
English or French?
Both. Écris-nous dans la langue de ton choix — we answer in kind.
